The Role
The ADF Cadets Communication Officers (APS 5) will be an integral part of the newly created ADF Cadets Directorate, providing direct support to the respective Navy, Army and Air Force cadet organisations. Communication Officers will be accountable, under broad direction, to perform and achieve communication, media and events work within an integrated military and civilian workforce. Essential skills are the ability to develop and prepare quality communication materials and advice for a range of internal and external media, coordinate clearances and manage competing priorities, to prioritise tasks to meet required objectives.

The successful applicant(s) will be required to consult broadly, consider and develop options and proposed courses of action in relation to public affairs guidance, communication, media, and event issues management. Quality stakeholder engagement is a fundamental requirement to build and maintain productive relationships within Joint Support Services Division (JSSD), and with respective Service cadet organisations and external stakeholders.

About our Team
JSSD provides a range of capabilities and support services including Gender, Peace and Security; Youth Policy, Programs and Training; Youth Protection and Reporting; ADF Sports; Military Legal Service; and Reserve and Employer Support to contribute to Defence capability and preparedness. ADF Cadets Directorate within JSSD provides complementary supporting and enabling functions and seeks to achieve standardisation across the three ADF Cadet programs, where practicable, for policy, administration and youth protection.

The key role of the ADF Cadets Communication Officers will be supporting the respective Service cadet organisation in providing professional communication, media, event and stakeholder management, and communication advice in relation to the support and growth of the Cadet programs.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate(s) will have the skills and attributes to achieve the following:

  • Check and confirm the accuracy of communication and media products and activities in accordance with established policies, standards and procedures.
  • Assist with design, development and implementation of internal and external communication, and media products and activities in support of One Cadet objectives.
  • Draft targeted communications including speeches, publications and articles.
  • Identify communication and media risks and opportunities.
  • Participate in the research and analysis of information and capitalise on opportunities to produce the most effective communication products and activities.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively across the Cadet organisations to deliver One Cadet outcomes.
  • Interpret and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
